Press Release |
Cook County's downtown Marriage Court got a makeover and is reopening at its regular lower level County Building space on Tuesday, December 9.
The Marriage Court had temporarily relocated to the Daley Center on October 27 to allow time to remodel the space with fresh paint, lighting, signage and flooring.
“The renovated space is much more inviting and comfortable for marriages and civil unions,” said the Hon. Diann Marsalek, presiding judge of Marriage Court. “I know couples and their friends and families will appreciate it.”
The renovation includes multilingual electronic signage that also complies with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements.
Couples interested in being joined in marriage or civil union may obtain a valid marriage or civil union license from the Cook County Clerk.
A valid marriage or civil union license and a $10 administrative fee are required. Couples must obtain a marriage or civil union license at least one (1) day, but no longer than 60 days, prior to the ceremony.
For those interested in an in-person marriage or civil union downtown, no prior scheduling is required, though couples should arrive 30 minutes before closing. Ceremonies are held Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. In-person ceremonies are held at 119 W. Randolph St. (Lower Level).
For couples who would prefer a virtual (Zoom) ceremony, please call (312) 603-5660 to schedule a ceremony.
